DA says flatbed drier also good for cassava

    QUEZON CITY, Jan. 27 (PIA) -- The Department of Agriculture (DA) has revealed that while a flatbed drier (FBD) is basically designed to dry palay, it can also be used to dry cassava.
    Proof of which are the farmers in Quirino belonging to Abrasa Multi-Purpose Cooperative (AMPC) in Diffun who have been using their FBD efficiently and conveniently, since July 2010, in drying cassava even during rainy season, thus giving them sustained income, the DA said. (+)

DA says agri sector grew by 2.34% in 2011

    QUEZON CITY, Jan. 26 (PIA) -- The Philippine agriculture industry grew by 2.34 percent in 2011, bannered by the crops, livestock and poultry subsectors, the Department of Agriculture (DA) said Wednesday.
    The DA said the combined positive performance of the three subsectors served as a cushion, as the fishery subsector registered negative growth due to dwindling fish population caused by overfishing, illegal fishing practices, and successive typhoons during the second semester of 2011. (+)

“Gabi ng Parangal” culminates Microinsurance month

    QUEZON CITY, Jan 31 (PIA) -- The ceremonial awarding of the heralds of microinsurance in the country will mark the culmination of the celebration of the Microinsurance Month, Tuesday night, Jan. 31, 2012 at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC).
    Themed as “Gabi ng Parangal at Pasasalamat sa mga Tagapagtaguyod ng Microinsurance,” the event is meant to recognize and honor the microinsurance partners in the Philippines, who have tangibly supported the microinsurance industry with the number of policies contracted under the mutual benefit associations, life and non-life insurances. DPWH chief bats for long term solutions vs flooding, disasters

    MANILA, January 31 (PIA) –- Public Works and Highways chief Secretary Rogelio L. Singson assured that P10.817 billion will be spent this year to carry out long term solutions to the country’s flooding and other water-related disasters.
    Singson said DPWH will be giving priority to water catchments and impounding structures upstream of major rivers. (+)

‘Asenso P’que Job Fair 2012’ set on February 7

    PARAÑAQUE CITY, January 31 (PIA) -- The Parañaque City Government will hold a job fair on February 07, Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Event Center of SM City Sucat in Brgy. San Dionisio, Parañaque City.
    Parañaque Mayor Jun Bernabe said improving the livelihood of the residents is a priority in the city. (+)

Marikina launches project for small entrepreneurs

    MARIKINA CITY, January 30 (PIA) -- In Marikina, ambulant vendors who comply with city regulations are provided financial assistance as additional capital for their livelihood.
    Today, the city government has launched the “Tulong Pangkabuhayan Program.” The program aims to help the small entrepreneurs of the city, such as registered ambulant vendors, in their source of living. (+)
