Nutrition council website launched in Ilocos

STA. MARIA, Ilocos Sur, Jan. 12 (PIA) -- The National Nutrition Council (NNC) in Region 1 recently launched its website, which aims to make the agency more accessible to the public.

The web launching was held during the meeting of members of the Regional Organization of Nutrition Development Advocates (RONDA) at the Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College (ISPSC) here.

Through the agency's website ( the agency can link more easily provide media networks and journalists with agency updates and news releases, said Victoria N. Manez, nutrition program coordinator for Region 1.

Media representatives in Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union and Pangasinan witnessed the presentation made by nutrition officer Emmarose C. Pineda.

Meanwhile, field reporter Joeffrey Barrido of the DZTP Radio Tirad Pass based in Candon City commended the NNC initiative to create its own website. He said the website would make it easier for him to get agency news and updates for his daily radio program.

The NNC, which was created through Presidential Decree No. 491 or the Nutrition Act of the Philippines dated June 25, 1974, is the country's highest policy-making and coordinating body on nutrition.

The council is composed of a Governing Board (BG) and a Secretariat.

Among the members of the GS are cabinet secretaries of Health, Agriculture, Interior and Local Government and Science and Technology.

The NNC serves as Secretariat.

In addition, three representatives from the private sector are appointed by the President of the Republic of the Philippines as members with a term of two years. (ANL/FGL-PIA 1 Ilocos Sur)
