85 OFW returnees participate in OWWA’s “Balik Pinay, Balik Hanapbuhay” project

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union, Jan. 21 (PIA) -- Some 85 Overseas Filipino Worker (OFWs) returnees participated in the four-day training on on Balik Pinay, balik hanapbuhay Project sponsored by Overseas Worker’s Welfare Administration – Regional Welfare Office 1 (OWWA-RWO1).

The project was held at the Pangasinan Training and Development Center located at the Capitol Compound in Lingayen, Pangasinan.

Amapola Z. Villar, OWWA-RWO1 Labor Communications officer of OWWA-RWO1 based here, said the Skills Training on Cosmetology aims to help OFWs to acquire knowledge and skills and also encourage them to enhance what they have learned by putting-up their own business.

During the event, Department of Labor and Employment - Regional Office 1 Senior Labor and Employment Officer Violeta Buenaventura inspired the participants, saying that a Pinay should always stay focus and strong amidst life’s adversities which eventually increased the participants’ optimism and confidence.

The Ricky Reyes Group headed by training Director Ivory C. Malagueña provided the lectures, hands-on demo, giving particular focus on Haircutting, Hair Perming, Foot Spa, and Make-up.

Malagueña gave the participants tips on engaging into Cosmetology as a livelihood. Starter kits were also distributed.

Pangasinan Governor Amado T. Espino Jr. showed support to this activity by providing accommodation for free at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center Dormitory. Participants came from far-flung areas of Pangasinan. (ANL/MPA-PIA 1 La Union with reports from OWWA-RWO1)
