PIA Press Release Thursday, January 26, 2012Practice good governance in infra projects - Sec. SingsonBy Miriam P. AquinoSAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union, Jan. 26 (PIA) -- Adhering to the present administration’s policy of good governance, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Rogelio L. Singson urged officials of DPWH in Region 1 to enforce good governance in implementing infrastructure projects. Speaking before the officials of the DPWH-Regional Office 1, Singson said “Let us enforce good governance by implementing the right project, with the right cost, right quality, at the right time and by the right people.” According to DPWH1 Public Relations Officer II Esperanza C. Tinaza, one of the primary agenda discussed during the Secretary’s visit was the importance of a drainage system in all national roads particularly the flooded areas. Citing the floods and landslide that happened in Mindanao and in some other parts of the country, Singson said that the DPWH flood mitigation projects are very crucial. “Make sure that these waterways, canals and drainages are not clogged; these must be working and effective especially during rainy seasons,” he said. The Secretary instructed the District Engineers from the different district offices here in the region to be strict in approving plans submitted by subdivision developers along the national roads. “Make sure that these proposed subdivisions must have a retarding basin to avoid flooding, “hindi iyong nakikipagsabayan ang agos ng tubig mula sa mga subdivision sa ating mga drainage system na nasa kalsada (flowing water from subdivisions must not flow through to the drainage systems along the streets) ,” he added. DPWH flood mitigation efforts are very crucial, and drainage systems are constructed to collect waters from national roads not from subdivisions, Singson said. He also urged DPWH officials in Region I to continue upholding principles of public service, discerning what is good for the community. (ANL/MPA-PIA 1 La Union with reports from ETinaza/DPWH1) |
