E-Trike Design contest aims to refurbish tricycle

DAGUPAN CITY, Jan. 30 (PIA) -- The tricycle, the common mode of transportation for the Filipinos, may soon have a new design to cope with the continuous rise of oil prices and to reduce air pollutants.

The Department of Energy (DOE) is now searching for the best electric tricycle design thru its Nationwide Contest for the Best E-Trike Design, which is centered on the theme “Bright Now! Do Right. Be Right. Go E-Trike!”

The design, which must be a three-wheeled electric vehicle that can hold a maximum of six passengers, excluding the driver, will be judged according to these criteria: aesthetics/creativity (50%), originality/innovation (20%), safety and functionality, and ergonomics (20%).

The design must be original and has not been previously used for commercial or demonstration purposes.

The contest is open to all Filipinos 18 years old and above, but employees of the DOE and their relatives to the second degree of sanguinity or affinity are disqualified. A contestant can only send one entry.

A cash prize of P200,000 each awaits the top three winners, while seven consolation prize winners will receive P50,000 each.

Interested participants must submit 2D and 3D computer-generated drawings of the design rendered in AutoCAD.

Entries must be both submitted in CD and hard copy (A4) to this address: Nationwide E-Trike Design Contest, c/o Energy Utilization Management Bureau, Department of Energy, Merritt Road, Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City 1631.

Contestants are likewise required to attach to their entries completely filled-up official registration form and notarized Oath of Ownership of the submitted design.

The official registration form can be downloaded at www.doe.gov.ph or at www.pia.gov.ph.

Deadline of submission of entries is on February 17, 2012.

Winners will be notified thru email, telephone or registered mail. Final judging will be on February 24.
