PIA Press Release Monday, January 30, 201255 members of SEA-K in Santol receive capital assistanceSAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union, Jan. 30 (PIA) -– A total of P470,000 was awarded recently to 55 recipients of the Self-Employment Assistance-Kaunlaran Capital Assistance in Santol town to build the capacities of poor households in starting small enterprise in order to become economically active and self-sufficient.The capital assistance is from the poverty-reduction convergence strategy of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). It is for the development and sustainability of the micro enterprise, according to DSWD Management Division chief Benjamin Baldo. Poor families were given a capital to start up small-scale business or micro enterprise such as soft broom making; root-crop buy and sell; and “sari-sari” stores, as part of government’s continued effort to mitigate poverty. Before the awarding, the beneficiaries had undergone orientation on SEA-K and assessment profiling process in terms of readiness to avail the program. The field office also conducted environmental scanning and social preparation to identified priority beneficiaries with feasible business proposals.
