Major PNP reform, accomplishments cited

    SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union, Jan. 30 (PIA) – Undersecretary for Peace and Order Rico Puno of the Department of Interior and Local Government said on Friday that the Philippine National Police has adopted a new fund distribution scheme where only 15 percent goes to national headquarters and the 85 percent goes to field operating units to ensure an efficient and responsive service to the people.
    Puno was guest here during the 21st PNP Anniversary with the theme “PRO 1: May Serbisyong Pagkukusa, Kaibigan ng Mamamayan at Tagapagtanggol ng Karapatan.” (+)

OFWs treated fairly in Taiwan, says MECO chief

    URDANETA CITY, Jan. 29 (PIA) -- Overseas Filipino workers (OFW) enjoy greater working condition and better treatment in Taiwan than in other countries.
    Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) Chief Amadeo R. Perez Jr. bared this fact during the Media in Action Forum of the Pangasinan Press Club held at the city hall on Friday. (+)

DSWD 1 marks its 61st anniversary celeb in February
    SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union, Jan. 31 (PIA) -- The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD-R1) will celebrate its 61st anniversary slated on February 2 and 3 this year at the Civic Center in Agoo, La Union with the theme “DSWD @61: Tuloy-tuloy sa Kaunlaran."
    According to DSWD-R1 Information Officer Iryn de los Reyes, they will showcase the success stories of various beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program in Region 1 as one of the highlights of the event. (+)

55 members of SEA-K in Santol receive capital assistance

    SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union, Jan. 30 (PIA) -– A total of P470,000 was awarded recently to 55 recipients of the Self-Employment Assistance-Kaunlaran Capital Assistance in Santol town to build the capacities of poor households in starting small enterprise in order to become economically active and self-sufficient.
    The capital assistance is from the poverty-reduction convergence strategy of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). It is for the development and sustainability of the micro enterprise, according to DSWD Management Division chief Benjamin Baldo. (+)

DSWD-1’s partner agencies offer programs, services to 100 4Ps beneficiaries in Ilocos Sur

    SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union, Jan. 30 (PIA) -- In response to the Millenium Development Goal to eradicate poverty incidence in the country, various partner agencies of the Department of Social and Welfare Development 1 (DSWD R1) offered their programs and projects to 100 Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4P) beneficiaries in the municipality of Sugpon, Ilocos Sur during the Convergence Caravan held recently in said municipality.
    According to Alan Lulu, DSWD-1 info officer, this convergence seeks to provide adequate livelihood opportunities or projects to 4P’s to increase their household income. (+)

E-Trike Design contest aims to refurbish tricycle

    DAGUPAN CITY, Jan. 30 (PIA) -- The tricycle, the common mode of transportation for the Filipinos, may soon have a new design to cope with the continuous rise of oil prices and to reduce air pollutants.
    The Department of Energy (DOE) is now searching for the best electric tricycle design thru its Nationwide Contest for the Best E-Trike Design, which is centered on the theme “Bright Now! Do Right. Be Right. Go E-Trike!” (+)
