PIA Press Release Monday, January 30, 2012LGU-Solana offers cash incentives to college studentsSOLANA, Cagayan, Jan. 30 (PIA) -- In order to augment daily expenses of college students who are pursuing degree courses, the Local Government Unit has adopted a mechanism of granting cash incentives to financially support college students.Shery-Ann Garunay, secretary to the mayor, said Mayor Meynard Carag initiated the project to help poor but deserving college students. The LGU has allotted funds for 400 slots, wherein each recipient will receive P1,000 per semester. The recipients are required to submit certification of grades with a maintaining average not lower than 83, and a barangay clearance. “The program aims to help bridge the education of the students financially and to lessen burden of their parents who are, mostly, farm laborers,” Garunay said. Garunay said the financial assistance is not very strict with its requirements as long as they are really enrolled in tertiary schools, pursuing any course and are residents of the town. This is merely to augment to the allowance of the students because majority of them commutes everyday in going to the adjacent city of Tuguegarao where the tertiary schools are located, Garunay clarified.
