Gov't to implement water dev't projects in 3 N. Vizcaya townsBAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya, January 30 (PIA) -- The National Anti-Poverty Commission (NAPC), Department of Health (DOH) and the Department of the Interior and Local Government(DILG) will be conducting water development projects to at least three local government units in the province in a bid to improve the communities' access to clean and potable water supply.
Under the program called “Sagana at Ligtas na Tubig sa Lahat,’ poor municipalities will be given spring development or deep well water development projects, especially those without potable water systems and prone to water-borne diseases.
Lawyer Odilon Pasaraba, DILG provincial director said the three initial recipients of the “Sagana at Ligtas na Tubig sa Lahat” program were Kayapa with an P8-million grant, Sta. Fe with P10 million fund and Dupax del Sur with P7-million fund.
“The municipalities of Kayapa and Sta. Fe were already given their corresponding funding assistance for the project. The fund for Dupax del Sur town is expected to be released this year,” Pasaraba said.
The “Sagana at Ligtas na Tubig sa Lahat” was signed in May 12 last year. It is a water and sanitation program of President Benigno Simeon Aquino III for waterless municipalities in the country.
It aims to increase the water service coverage to 155 priority “waterless municipalities'" defined as municipalities with less than 50 percent service coverage.
Priority barangays are those with high poverty incidence, limited or no access to water service coverage, and prevalence of water-borne diseases.
The fund for the program will be sourced from 2011 General Appropriations Act in which P1.5 billion was allocated to the DOH for the provision of potable water.(TCB/BME/PIA 2-Nueva Vizcaya
