Edale, Jr.SANTIAGO CITY, Isabela, January 31 (PIA) – The city agriculture office has urged the the Sangguniang Panlungsod here to enact an ordinance requiring the labeling of agriculture-processed products and handicrafts. Dominador Fernandez, city agriculturist, said there is a need to label all the said products so that the city will be promoted anywhere in the country or in the world. The city agriculturist will submit his recommendation to the Sangguniang Panlungsod next week and he said he hopes that the proposal will be given importance and will be enacted. Among the products that the city agriculturist wanted to be labeled are the city’s own-produced sugar called muscuvado, sugarcane vinegar, molasses and handicrafts made out of cogon and recycled materials produced by the city folks. Fernandez said the city government together with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and the Department of Agriculture are providing financial and technical assistance to the sugarcane farmers and handicraft makers to produce and develop their products to become competitive and salable even in international standards.
