by Benjie S. de Yro ILAGAN, Isabela, January 31 (PIA) -- A university professor in this capital town who is a recipient of the “Ulang project” under Small Entrepreneur Technology Upgrading Program (SET UP) of the Department of Science and Technology has produced the biggest ulang or fresh river prawn (Macrobrachium rosenbergii) compared to the same specie produced by Regions 5, 6, 9 and 12, according Director Urduja Tejada. “The fish farmer-professor identified as Enrico Santos whose farm is located at Barangay Marana here harvested 12 piece per kilo, breaking the existing record harvest of the Bicol region which registered 20 pieces per harvest,” Tejada said. Vizcaya towns BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya, January 30 (PIA) -- The National Anti-Poverty Commission (NAPC), Department of Health (DOH) and the Department of the Interior and Local Government(DILG) will be conducting water development projects to at least three local government units in the province in a bid to improve the communities' access to clean and potable water supply. Under the program called “Sagana at Ligtas na Tubig sa Lahat,’ poor municipalities will be given spring development or deep well water development projects, especially those without potable water systems and prone to water-borne diseases. De Yro QUEZON, Nueva Vizcaya, January 31 (PIA) -- A former accountant of an insurance company in the United States discovered the economic potentials of the fresh-water prawn , ulang (Macrobrachium rosenbergii), four months after he ventured into its production. Frederick Yang, owner of the Yang Farm in Barangay Maddiangat in this municipality netted P19,000 from his 0.1 hectare ulang pond after he stocked it with 6,500 post larvae ulang.
