San Fernando to celebrate 11th Cityhood anniversary

by Joelyn G. Baluyut

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga, Jan. 31 (PIA) – San Fernando will celebrate its 11th Cityhood anniversary dubbed “Kaganapan 2012,” aiming to achieve the vision of the city government to become a Habitat for Human Excellence by 2030.

With the theme, “Pamibuklud ding Barangay, Kaganapan ning Siyudad (Solidarity among villages, City's Fulfillment),” the celebration intends to solidly spread good governance practices down to the barangay level.

“We wanted to propagate our good governance practices down to the barangay level which is considered as the smallest yet greatest political unit,” said City Mayor Oscar Rodriguez.

The theme, Rodriguez added, also explains “the re-affirmation of every community’s role in contributing to our city’s progress."

From Jan. 31 to Feb. 14, the city will be celebrating Kaganapan 2012 featuring dental and mental missions, painting contest, cycling caravan, Pedro Abad Santos Day, lantern exhibition, serenata, livelihood trainings, jobs fair, trade fair, city-wide clean up day and urban greening, OSCAR awards, fun run, OKAZAKI Cup Championship, and mass wedding among others.

Also, San Fernando’s excellent sons and daughters shall be recognized during the Outstanding Fernandino awards night. This recognizes outstanding Fernandino achievers in the government, in the private sector and in the academe who excelled or continues to excel in their respective fields and professions.

This city has been established as a first class component city on Feb. 4, 2001 following the ratification of Republic Act 8990, making the City of San Fernando the 99th city of the Republic of the Philippines. (WLB/JGB-PIA 3)
