Entrepreneurial program for Ilonggo youth mulled

by TWVillavert

ILOILO CITY, January 2 (PIA) -- With the onset of 2012, the Department of Trade and Industry, Iloilo Provincial Office(DTI-Iloilo) will focus on creating economic opportunities for the Ilonggo youths to help them build meaningful careers and help address the problem of unemployment.

"We look forward to partnering with the provincial government and the various congressional districts of Iloilo province,” DTI-Iloilo provincial director Wilhelm Malones said in a PIA interview.

He emphasized that he has already submitted the proposal of the program on youth entrepreneurship to the DTI Region 6 for approval.

Malones said that the proposal once approved will help address unemployment concerns in the province.

"We will be producing more graduates this year, and not all of them could immediately find jobs," he added.

The program would be open to interested students, new graduates and out-of-school youths, Malones said.

“This is the program that the DTI-Iloilo would want to push for 2012, so that the unemployed youths through entrepreneurship could be used as a strategy that can lead to economic self-sufficiency,” Malones said.

He expressed high hopes that the DTI-Iloilo’s proposal program for youth entrepreneurship will be approved so that they can start the implementation of the program.

The DTI-Iloilo provincial director did not specify their number of target beneficiaries, but he emphasized that once the proposal is approved, the DTI will closely coordinate with the Iloilo provincial government and its various congressional districts.(JCM/TWV/PIA6-Iloilo)
