Capiz reports no indiscriminate firing from PNP

by Alex A. Lumaque

ROXAS CITY, Capiz, Jan. 3 (PIA) -- Capiz police director S/Supt. Domingo S. Cabillan said that no reports of indiscriminate firing of service firearms have reached the Capiz Police Provincial Office as the province welcomed 2012.

Cabillan said that the adhesive tape on the muzzle of a gun of every policeman was unsealed last Jan. 2 by the respective Chiefs of Police of local police stations provincewide.

“I urge the public to report any occurrence of indiscriminate firing of guns so that we can investigate the information,” Cabillan said during the phone patched interview.

Earlier, the PNP official warned policemen that a national headquarters directive prohibits indiscriminate firing, which will cause dismissal from the service.

Cabillan has ordered the muzzle taping of policemen’s service firearms for PNP personnel to refrain from firing their guns during the yuletide celebrations.

The taping of gun muzzles is the PNP’s support to the government’s campaign to prevent firearms and firecrackers injuries, which may lead to death and loss of properties during the season revelry.

Capiz Provincial Health Office (PHO) records showed there were no victim of indiscriminate firing in the provincewide based on its monitoring of firecrackers and stray bullet – related injuries from Dec. 21 to Jan. 1 this year.

Cabillan was interviewed today in a community channel news and talkshow program. (JCM/AAL/PIA 6 Capiz)
