PhilHealth 6 pays almost P3B for benefits in 2011

by Lilibeth A. French

ILOILO CITY, January 9 (PIA) -- The PhilHealth Regional Office 6 has paid almost P3 billion in total benefits of its members in Western Visayas during the period January to December 2011.

The disbursement was made payment for the room and board, drugs and medicines, laboratory and supplies and doctors’ professional fees in both accredited hospital and non-hospital facilities throughout the region.

It also includes reimbursement made to members and their dependents for their hospitalization, diagnostics and availment of other out-patient benefits.

PhilHealth 6 Information Officer Larry Tabsing

said some P825 million of the P3 billion was released to the corporation’s sponsored program for the proceeds of paid claims and capitation funds, released to the local government units in the region.

Out of the P825 million, Negros Occidental received P193 million, Iloilo Province - P172.2 million, Capiz- P130.3 million, Aklan- 114.4 million, Iloilo City-P110.5 million, Antique-P51.4 million, and Guimaras-P48.3 million.

The premiums of the enrolled families are jointly paid by the national government and partners such as the local government units, private individuals and corporations, and members of Congress under the sponsored program of the National Health Insurance Program to ensure that the goals of the Universal Health Care or Kalusugan Panglalahatan, a priority program of President Benigno Aquino III, will be achieved.

PhilHealth 6 data showed that the premium counterparts paid by the LGUs during the same period were: For Aklan- P24 Million; Antique - P13.5; Capiz - P31.3; Guimaras - P3.8 M; Iloilo - P18.3; Negros Occ - P60.8 and Iloilo City P30.4Million.

Tabsing reminded partners of the increase in premium for the enrolled family, which will take effect this year.

However, LGUs that continuously enroll their indigents can pay partially and may take an option to pay in full in 2013 the total annual premium of P2,400 for each family beneficiary.

Tabsing said increase in payment of PhilHealth premiums for other members and new benefits are also expected this year as the corporation continues to introduce innovations in provider payment mechanisms, benefit design and provider accreditation for the financial risk protection of all its members.

This year, the corporation has also enhanced its NHIP benefit packages by introducing the Case Rate as a new payment mechanism and the option of no-billing in government hospitals for indigent patients. (JCM/LAF/PIA-Iloilo)
