Inmates receive gifts from city officialsby Easter Anne D. Doza
BACOLOD CITY, Jan. 9 (PIA6) -- The inmates of the three city jails under the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) received gifts from the local city officials
The distribution of the gifts was led by Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia and Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson accompanied by Councilors El Cid Familiaran and Em Ang.
The group went to the BJMP Handumanan Women and Men facilities and then the BJMP-Taculing facility and gave out several boxes of canned foods.
Leonardia and Sayson were glad that they were able to personally visit the inmates and bring foodstuff.
“It is our hope that our personal visit, our personal concern for them, will inspire the inmates to do well on their rehabilitation and pave the way for their early release on good behavior,” Leonardia said.
Meanwhile, the management of BJMP Handumanan jail facility for women is introducing livelihood programs like key chain making, coin purse making, dress making and vegetable gardening in order to help sustain the personal needs of the female inmates.
Jail Wardress Jerry Ann Marcelino said that they are scouting for more outlets to market their products.
Bacolod District Jail Male Dormitory J/C Insp. Gilbert Peremne personally thanked the local city officials for their gifts to the inmates of the BJMP.*(JCM/EAD-PIA6/Negros Occidental)
