Capiz town to boost health services

by Alex A. Lumaque

ROXAS CITY, Capiz, Jan. 9 (PIA) –- The municipality of Pres. Roxas in Capiz will expand its Rural Health Unit (RHU) building to further improve the delivery of basic health services to constituents.

“The construction and renovation of the building is just one of the many things that will surely boost the health services given to our people,” said town mayor Raymund Locsin in a news release.

The project is in line with the Enhancement of Health Services and Facilities agenda of the municipal government.

Presently, RHU – President Roxas boasts of its woman and child-friendly center that has been acknowledged by the United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA) as a best practice in ending violence against women and children in view of the Reproductive Health implementation nationwide.

The Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC) center popularly called 'Pink Room' is managed by the town's RHU in close coordination with collaborating agencies to sustain a 24-hour medical, counseling and police protection services to victims and survivors of violence.

The project was established in 2002 to address the high incidence of gender-based violence-related cases and to respond to the recommendation for an integrated health service delivery in the Provincial Quality of Care survey conducted last 2001 by the Research Institute of the Central Philippine University based in Iloilo City.

The center's name connotes healing from the violence experienced by women and children and a place of safety and protection from further abuse.

Another color, called the 'Blue Room' in the RHU, was established by the municipal government as an offshoot of the center to involve and explore men in the campaign on the eradication of violence against women and children. (JCM/AAL/PIA 6 Capiz)
