Kalibo to implement gun ban during Ati-atihan Nights

by Venus G. Villanueva

KALIBO, Aklan, January 9 (PIA6) -- A gun ban shall be imposed at the Kalibo Magsaysay Park during the Ati-atihan Nights as agreed by the Philippine National Police and the local government of Kalibo during the nightly activities from January 13-15 of this year.

The holding of the Ati-atihan Nights is one of the highlights and attractions of the world-renown Kalibo Sto. Niño Ati-atihan Festival, conducted through non-stop snake dancing and partying to the music of live bands.

The agreement was arrived upon during the municipality’s meeting with heads and officers of the Kalibo PNP, the Aklan Police Provincial Office (APPO), the Bureau of Fire Protection, Coast Guard Auxilliary and reservists of the Philippine Army, according to a report from the LGU.

The gun ban, according to the report, was recommended by Kalibo Mayor William Lachica and supported by the APPO.

It was also agreed that only deputized persons will be allowed to carry firearms to maintain peace and order in the area, like the policemen, soldiers and Army reservists.

Aside from security teams that will be posted at vantage areas near the Magsaysay Park, the municipality and other concerned agencies will also set up rescue, public assistance, patrol teams and tactical reaction teams. (JCM/VGV PIA 6 Aklan)
