'Mga Daang Matuwid Silid-Aralan’ up for construction

NEGROS OCCIDENTAL, Jan. 11 (PIA6) -- A P22.4 million worth of check was turned over recently to the Negrense Volunteers for Change Foundation for the construction of 64 Daang Matuwid Silid-Aralan in the 32 towns and cities of the province.

The check was turned over by Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. To NVC President Millie Kilayko.

The amount came from the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) of Sen. Sergio Osmeña III.

It was earlier transferred to the Provincial Government of Negros Occidental through Gov. Marañon for accountability and monitoring purposes.

The NVC Foundation, Inc. is in charge of the coordination with the local government units and the Department of Education and the community for the identification of site and overseeing of the construction of classrooms.

The NVC will continue to monitor the use of the donated classrooms and facilitate linkages with additional inputs as well as provide trainings for teachers.

According to NVC president Kilayko, the set of two classrooms with toilet costs P700,000 inclusive of general supervision.

The construction will begin this month and all classrooms will be ready for occupancy before the opening of 2012-2013 classes, Kilayko added.

The Daang Matuwid Silid-Aralan is seen to address the shortage of public schools facilities in the province in preparation for the upcoming implementation of the DepEd’s K to 12 program.*(EAD/JCM/-PIA6/Capitol News Negros Occidental)
