PESO to offer job opportunities for Ilonggos on January 20

by Lilibeth A. French

ILOILO CITY, January 11 (PIA6) -- Another employment opportunity will be presented to those seeking jobs as the Iloilo City government through its Public Employment Service Office will conduct the first jobs fair in this city for this year.

The one-day jobs fair “Hala Bira…Trabaho Na! Halad ni Mayor Jed Mabilog Dinagyang Jobs Fair” will be held at the Amigo Plaza Mall on January 20 as part of the activities lined-up for the 2012 Dinagyang Festival.

Iloilo City PESO Manager Allan Zaldivar said 35 local companies and 15 overseas employment agencies will be participating in the day offering various job openings for skilled workers, nurses, hotel and restaurant management and business courses graduates, among others.

Last year, the Iloilo City PESO successfully conducted 14 jobs fair which resulted in 23,000 job placements both here and abroad.

Zaldivar said the Iloilo City PESO plans to surpass its accomplishments in the conduct of jobs fair this year such as strengthening their “Trabaho sa Plaza”.

He said they will conduct the “Trabaho sa Plaza”, a jobs fair being held at the plazas of the different district of the city, every quarter in line also with the effort of the city government to make employment opportunities accessible especially to those jobseekers who have financial constraints.

In a recent press report, Labor and Employment Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz cited the contribution of the PESOs in the country’s employment performance last year.

"We credit the effective work of our 1,069 PESOs in all 16 regions of the country in elevating to positive the employment performance of the economy in 2011," said Baldoz in the report as she noted that the PESOs were instrumental in placing 1,108,908 jobseekers in all types of jobs--most of them in wage employment--in the country from January to December 2011.

Baldoz said the PESOs play an important role in the pursuit of President Benigno Aquino III’s 22-point labor and employment agenda and also respond to the goals of his Social Contract with the Filipino People and the Labor and Employment Plan 2011-2016, as embodied in the Philippine Development Plan 2011-2016.
