Fire safety inspections of establishments in Capiz underway

by Alex A. Lumaque

ROXAS CITY, Capiz, Jan. 16 (PIA6) -- The Bureau of Protection (BFP) here is currently conducting fire safety inspections of various establishments as part of the requirements in the application and renewal of business permits.

After the businessmen have settled their requirements at the One-Stop Shop in the City Hall, they have to apply at the BFP for fire safety inspection, said BFP Roxas City Public Information Officer FO2 Marlon Garbo.

However, Garbo said fire safety inspection is not needed for kiosks and other similar establishments that do not have a lot of employees and customers.

A Fire Safety Inspection Certificate (FSIC) will be issued after the inspection, he noted, adding that applicants will be given a grace period to comply if they failed to meet the BFPs requirements like fire extinguishers, fire and smoke alarms, fire exit and corresponding signages, among others.

All business establishments are required to secure FSIC upon application for Business Permit to ensure compliance with the Fire Code of the Philippines as amended by RA 9514.

There were about 3,077 business establishments which were inspected by the firemen of BFP Roxas City based on its 2011 records. (JCM/AAL/PIA 6 Capiz)
