Silay City to showcase cultural heritage in Kasadyahan 2012

NEGROS OCCIDENTAL, Jan. 18 (PIA6) -- ‘Culture and tourism, Silaynon sang Negros’ is the banner slogan of Tribu Kansilay in the 2012 Kasadyahan Competition in Iloilo City on January 21.

Silay City Mayor Jose Montelibano, head of contingent, said the theme of Tribu Kansilay is ‘Sa Pag-ugyon, Kita May Pagaanihon’ which is the battlecry of the Negrenses to attain peace, unity and prosperity under the leadership of Gov. Alfredo Marañon.

Montelibano added that Silaynons are bringing to Iloilo ‘our culture, our industry, and our friendship to promote tourism and art.’

Ver Pacete, tourism officer of Silay said this event is of historical importance because the founders of pueblo de Silay in 1760 came from Iloilo and now is the right time to show to the world that Silaynons have never failed to preserve the cultural heritage of the region.

The eight other tribes joining the regional competition are ‘Sigabong sang mga Kanyon of Bago City; Tribu Mandaragat of San Jose, Antique; Maragtas of Iloilo City; Sinadya sa Halaran of Roxas City; Salakayan of Miag-ao; Palayag sang Buenavista of Guimaras; Panguyang of Antique, and Hubon Sinulog of Guimaras.

Non-competing tribes are Kahilwayan of Sta. Barbara, Masskara of Bacolod City, Hugyaw Arts and Dance Co. of Iloilo City, and Ati-Atihan of Kalibo, Aklan.

Local and foreign tourists will be given the chance to view the show in four performance areas: Iloilo Freedom Grandstand, Iloilo Provincial Capitol, area in front of Gaisano City, and Iloilo Sports Complex.

Eden Deriada, committee chair, said that the winners will receive the following awards: champion, P125,000; first runner-up, P 75,000; second runner-up, P50,000; third runner-up,

P 40,000; and fourth runner-up, P30,000.

Minor awards will have the following prizes: best in street dance, P 20,000; best in performance, P 10,000; best in choreography, P 10,000; best in music, P 10,000; best in costume, P 10,000; and best choreographer, P 10,000.

Criteria for the contest includes: choreography, 25%; performance, 30%; theme/concept, 15%; and production design, 30%.

Atty. Helen J. Catalbas, OIC of DOT VI, said that she welcomes the participation of Silay City because in Western Visayas, Silay is the seat of arts, culture and ecotourism. *(EAD/JCM/-PIA6/Silay Negros Occidental)
