Displaced families in Neg. Occ. receive help

ESCALANTE CITY, Negros Occidental, Jan.22 (PIA) -- Some 33 households with a total of 129 individuals from Brgy. Malasibog, Escalante City, were assisted by a composite team spearheaded by the Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC) Negros Occidental Chapter, a press release from Escalante said.

The Red Cross distributed relief goods complementing efforts extended by the local and provincial DSWD.

It was led by the Provincial Environment and Management Office (PEMO) and the Provincial Disaster Management Team (PDMT) and Escalante City Mayor Melecio J. Yap, Jr. through the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO).

Every household was given five kilos of rice, three packs of noodles, three cans of sardines, a blanket and a mat.

Escalante Mayor Yap ordered the immediate evacuation of the families, days before the heavy rainfall that caused minor landslide in the area.

The area experienced massive flooding, ecological dents and it is within geological risk. This was due to heavy rains that occurred recently.

Inhabitants particularly in Sitio Baluc were consigned in Malasibog Elementary School that served as their temporary shelter. (Escalante City/CD/JCM/PIA6)
