Bacolod SP joins in celebration of Chinese New Year

BACOLOD CITY, Jan. 23 (PIA) -- The Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod recently passed two resolutions in celebration of the Chinese New Year.

Resolution No. 10 greets the Filipino-Chinese Community of Bacolod a prosperous and peaceful New Year in the celebration of the Chinese New Year today, while Resolution No. 11 enjoins Bacolodnons to support and actively participate in the celebration of the 7th Bacolaodiat Festival that started last January 20 and culminates this day.

Chinese New Year is considered the most important traditional Chinese holiday celebrated with big family gatherings, gift giving, eating of symbolic food and display of festive decorations focused on bringing good luck for the New Year.

Bacolod City, home to many Filipino-Chinese families and businessmen, continues to uphold and recognize the importance of traditions of each sector within the society. The City will once again mingle with our Filipino-Chinese brothers and sisters in this traditional celebration.

The Bacolaodiat Festival started in 2006 and is celebrated annually during the Chinese New Year.

It was originally conceptualized to show support and appreciation to the Filipino-Chinese community for their contributions to the local economy and for sharing their customs and traditions to the residents of the city. The festival has, since then, became a major tourism event in the city. CMO-PIO/PIA6-LOL)
