More Capiceño students avail of educational aid

ROXAS CITY, Capiz, Jan. 27 (PIA6) -- More high schools students in Capiz availed of government assistance to pursue their education.

Filamer Christian University Guidance Counselor Phoebe Santiago disclosed that some 675 high schools students in their school were granted education assistance by the national government through the Government Assistance to Students and Teachers in Private Education (GASTPE).

She said under-privileged first to fourth year high school students are given P5,500 by the government through the Department of Education, to defray part of their school fees.

Santiago, who is also the university’s GASTPE coordinator, explained that 13 of the beneficiaries who are in the first year were not included in this year’s budget. However, the parents of the GASTPE grantees opted to contribute to help the non-grantees.

According to Santiago, the said national government program has been helping the students and teachers for the past seven years already.

Santiago revealed that for this school year alone, the government has granted P3.92 million to FCU’s qualified high school students and teachers. Of which, P3.641 million is intended for the students while the remaining P288,000 is for the teacher’s subsidy.

On the other hand, high school department Parents, Teachers and Employees Association President Dr. Madelyn Bucayan expressed her appreciation to the government’s initiative to support the students. (JBG/PIA6-Capiz)
