Saturday, January 07, 2012Over 1,500 Sendong victims receive medical services in Dumaguete Cityby Jennifer Catan-Tilos DUMAGUETE CITY, Jan. 7 (PIA) –- At least 1,580 victims of typhoon Sendong in Negros Oriental received recently free medical and relief operation services from the Philippine Medical Association (PMA) supported by over 80 army personnel. The military team led by 302nd Brigade Commander, Col. Francisco Patrimonio provided security, transportation and manpower assistance to the simultaneous medical consultations, distribution of medicines and relief operations conducted by PMA in Dumaguete City. Almost two weeks after typhoon Sendong hit Dumaguete City and some parts of Negros Oriental, volunteer health practitioners joined hands in giving assistance for free medical consultations, medicines and distributions of relief goods. The free medical services also included check-up, eye examination, minor surgery and food distribution. Col. Patrimonio said that the Philippine Army particularly the 302 Brigade is always ready to extend its assistance in times of disasters and calamities like typhoon Sendong. He added that the calamity is a clear manifestation that the spirit of Bayanihan among Filipino people is very crucial. “We encourage the Negrenses to unite and work together for the safety and well-being of everybody”, said Col. Patrimonio. Participating agencies and groups of the medical mission included Negros Oriental Provincial and City Health, Department of Social Welfare and Development, National Telecommunications Commission, Federation of Volunteers thru Radio Communications, Sto Nino Augustinian Development Foundation, among others.
