DAR NegOr exceeds 2011 target

by Jennifer Catan-Tilos

DUMAGUETE CITY, Jan. 12 (PIA) -- The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) Negros Oriental provincial office exceeded its 2011 targets by two hectares on the Land Tenure Improvement (LTI) program, having accomplished 2,647 hectares.

DAR-7 regional director Rodolfo Inson announced this during the turnover ceremony of Provincial Agrarian Reform Officers (PAROs) this week at Plaza Maria Luisa Hotel, Dumaguete City.

DAR-NegOr information officer Aileen Alaban-Villaseca said 2011 target for LTI coverage was at 2,645 hectares but after an evaluation of its accomplishments, the NegOr PARO has reached 2,647 hectares exceeding two hectares thus achieving an overall percentage rate of 100.07 percent.

Villaseca said, CARP has three major components that include LTI, delivery of agrarian justice (DAJ) and program beneficiaries’ development (PBD).

The LTI component seeks to secure the tenurial status of farmers and farm workers in the land they till. This is through land acquisition and distribution or Leasehold Operations, said Villaseca.

PBD, on the other handm aims to capacitate Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries (ARBs) and provide them access to necessary support services to make their lands more productive; enable them to venture into income generation livelihood projects and actively participate in community governance.

Inson said the 2012 target for Region 7 will reach to 9,000 hectares and Negros Oriental’s target is 4,000 hectares or 60 percent of the total regional target. (mbcn/jct/PIA-NegOr)
