by Rizalie A. Calibo

SIQUIJOR, Jan 25 (PIA) -- The business sector in Siquijor province has partnered with civil society organizations and the local government to conduct a survey on various tourism support service facilities, particularly transport services, hotels and resorts within the island.

To conduct the survey, Siquijor Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. (SCII) has partnered with the the Fortification of Social Organization Working for the Enhancement of the Chamber and Association Network (AFOS-WE CAN), Siquijor Provincial Tourism Office and the provincial offices of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).

The survey will be conducted by Mathias Wolfer of the AFOS-WE CAN with Siquijor State College tourism students as enumerators.

The survey, which started on January 10, will run for three to four weeks, according to Roberto Pajermo, president of Siquijor Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. (SCII).

Pajermo added that a similar project was successfully done in Bohol and other parts of the archipelago.

"The survey further aims to get a better view of the current status of hotel and restaurants, the good and weak points within the service sector and its related sectors as well," Pajermo added.

Pajermo further said that the SCII solicited the support from various sectors including resort owners and other establishments in the conduct of the survey.

“We hope to be able to work with the them in this endeavor, as we aspire to give the best service to our clients and guests, local and foreign alike,” he said.

He also said that the chamber looks at the activity as an opportunity to present its active position for the island's tourism development and to provide people the option of appropriate and improved services of the tourism sector.

Pajermo concluded that based on the findings next steps can be developed in cooperation with all partners involved. (rda/mbcn/rac/PIA-Siquijor)
