DPWH implements river control project in Albuera, LeyteTACLOBAN CITY, Leyte, Jan 30 (PIA) -- The river passing through Barangay Soob, Albuera, Leyte has been causing heavy damage in said area whereas a part of the mountain located in the same place is being eroding and threatening to wash away the national highway.
This was reported by Lino Francisco C. Gonzalez, engineer of the Leyte Fourth Engineering District of the Department of Public Works and Highways, Region 8. According to him, there is an urgent need for a river control protection to stop the water from overflowing.
Relative to this, Gonzales said that the municipal Mayor of Albuera, Leyte requested assistance from the engineering ofice to conduct a site survey, which was immediately acted on.
It was revealed that due to the recent typhoons and heavy rains, the bank of the river has been eroding, which is turn, is fast eroding the soil.
Gonzalez added that barangay officials are apprehensive that in the next calamity or typhoon, the national highway might be totally damaged and washed away. They are requesting that priority be given in repairing the already damaged sections to prevent further destruction.
It was bared that there is a plan, costing around P7 million, for the rehabilitation of the said places.(maa/PIA-8)
