Mis. Occ. PDRRMC issues warning of possible flashfloods and rise in coastal watersby Rutchie Cabahug-Aguhob
OROQUIETA CITY, Misamis Occidental, Jan. 11 (PIA) -- Gov. Herminia Ramiro, Chairperson of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) of Misamis Occidental has warned the people in the mountain slopes and low-lying areas to take pre-cautionary measures against possible flashfloods, anew.
The same warning was also issued to the residents in the coastal areas of the province for possible rise in coastal waters.
This, after the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) issued Final General Flood Advisory No. 19, at 10:00 a.m., today,
PAGASA said the present weather condition for Mindanao will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers and thunderstorms. For the next 24 hours, Mindanao will experience light rains with short duration of moderate to heavy rains with thunderstorms.
The waterways likely to be affected by the present weather condition are all the rivers and streams of Oroquieta River and other rivers and tributaries in Misamis Occidental and the whole Northern Mindanao which include:
Odiongan River, Tagoloan River, Cagayan de Oro River, Manduloy River, Cabulig River and the other nearby rivers in the province of Misamis Oriental, Agus River, Liangan River, Maranding River, Mandulog River, Dapao River and Mataling River in Lanao del Norte.
The Governor also called on the local DRRMC to come up with pro-active measures aimed at attaining ďzeroĒ casualty focused on evacuation rather than rescue. (PIA-10 Mis. Occ.)
