PAGASA warns of earthquake aftershocks

OZAMIZ CITY, Misamis Occidental, Jan. 18 (PIA) -- An earthquake of tectonic origin took place at 8:55:33 p.m., last night, and is expected to deliver aftershocks, today.

According to the Earthquake Information No. 3, issued by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) at 10:03 p.m., on Jan. 17, 2012, the epicenter was located at 11:3 degrees North, 126.12 degrees East, 55 km. North, 54 degrees East of Mecedes, Easter Samar.

Its depth of focus was 0.25 km., with a magnitude of 5.9 and reported to have the following strengths:

Intensity 5, in Sacedo, Borongan and Guian, Eastern Samar and Intensity 4, in Tacloban, Palo and Tolosa, Leyte, Catbalogan, Samar, Dolores and San. Policarpio, Eastern Samar.

Intensity 3 at St. Bernard and Hinunangan, Southern Leyte and Catarman, Northern Samar, Intensity 2, in Naval, Biliran and Intensity 1, in Cebu City.

Meanwhile, PAGASAís Public Weather Forecast issued at 5:00 a.m., today, Jan. 18, said the eastern sections of Luzon and the Visayas will have mostly cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms.

The rest of Luzon will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rains, while the rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.

Moderate to occasionally strong winds blowing from the East to Northeast will prevail over Luzon and its coastal waters will be moderate to occasionally rough.

Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate coming from the East to Northeast with slight to moderate seas. (PIA-10 Mis. Occ.)
