Mis. Occ. infra damages due to Sendong reaches P192.825 M

OROQUIETA CITY, Misamis Occidental, Jan. 24 (PIA) -- A total of P192.825 million worth of damages to infrastructure, mostly roads and flood control projects, was recorded in the province of Misamis Occidental due to Typhoon Sendong.

Reports submitted by the Mis. Occ. Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council to the Regional DRRMC in Northern Mindanao show, however, that the roads have been rendered passable after Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) cleared the soil materials and landslide debris.

The PDRRMC said on midnight of Dec. 16, minor landslides/road slips with the shouldering materials in some sections washed out were noted in the Oroquieta-Plaridel-Calamba-Sapang-Dalaga (OPCSD) Road with damages estimated at P300,000, and the Oroquieta City-Calamba Mountain (OC-CM) Road worth P350,000.

By 6:00 am, the next day, Dec. 17, the following roads had the same nature of damages:

Ozamiz City-Oroquieta City (OC-OC) Road, P200,000; left side of OPCSD Road, P350,000; OC-CM Road, P500,000; Calamba-Baliangao Road, P500,000; and four sections of the OC-CM Road for soil erosion resulting in clogged canal, P240,000.

Meanwhile, the 97-meter provincial bridge in Sitio Barra, Northern Poblacion going to Barangays Kauswagan and Usokan in Plaridel town incurred a damage of P119,650,000, and was closed since Dec. 17.

Early morning of Dec. 18, in Sapang Dalaga town, a landslide occurred in the spillway of Barangays Disoy and San Agustin, rendering the facility half-way passable.

Due to heavy rain and flood debris, Baga Falls in Barangay Poblacion which was developed as a tourist attraction with 3 units of makeshift layered bridge made of bamboo and native rope was destroyed including the shower pipe, chairs and plants worth P500,000.

In Clarin town, the hanging bridge in Barangay Masabud, as well, as the spillway, roads and flood control project from Barangays Pan-ay to Dolores were totally washed out incurring a damage of P67.5 million.

In Tudela town, the damages include the following:

River flood control-riprap in Barangay Taguima, P650,000; barangay roads and water pipes in Barangay Pan-ay Diot, P1.5 million; sub-marine bridge in Barangay Yahong, P25,000.

Barangay roads and bridge in Silongon, P45,000; Maribojok P25,000; Duangguican, P100,000; Napurog, P100,000; Gala, P45,000; Tonggo, P150,000; Buenavista, P45,000; and Cahayag, P50,000. (PIA-10 Mis. Occ.)
