Bayanihan Ng Bayan launched

ILIGAN CITY, Lanao del Norte, Jan. 26 (PIA) -Ė Bayanihan Ng Bayan: Anong Taya Mo Para Sa Bayan? was launched yesterday in observance of the 40th day after a calamity devastated Iligan brought about by tropical storm Sendong.

Bayanihan Ng Bayan: Anong Taya Mo Para Sa Bayan? is a campaign for a lasting effort to help the community and people rise from the devastation that it suffered recently.

The campaign was led by the Presidential Communications Operations Office Ė Office for Special Concerns in the office of President Benigno Simeon Aquino III.

It also involved national offices like the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), National Youth Commission (NYC), EDSA People Power Commission (EPPC) and non-governmental organization (NGO) like Gawad Kalinga (GK).

One of the biggest activities was the clean-up drive; Iliganon Heroes Build at the Resettlement site at Sta. Elena; Paraisong Pambata: Iliganís Biggest Kids party at Mindanao State University Ė Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT); Ground Zero Ceremony at the destroyed Mandulog Bridge at Hinaplanon; Solidarity Walk; and Bayanihan Ng Bayan Concert at MSU Ė IIT Gym.

The clean-up drive was led by barangay officials and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Federation. Residents of barangays or community affected by tropical storm Sendong also participated in this activity.

In Iliganon Heroes Build or shelter build, approximately 300 teams or groups from different colleges and universities, organization, local government units and other groups from other parts of the world. Each team is composed of 15 members who are carpenters and masons who will construct housing unit.

The kids party is aimed at entertaining 2,000 children affected by Sendong that was led by students from St. Michaelís College and GK Youth and volunteers. A huge cake was prepared by the Hotel and Restaurant Management students from SMC who offered prayers and extend best wishes for the kids.

The Ground Zero Ceremony was a mass and prayers for flood victims while the solidarity walk was held after the mass where volunteers participate in the walk bringing with them torches to MSU-IIT Gym.
