‘Care for School Chairs’ program benefits Compostela, Panabo schools

TAGUM CITY, Davao del Norte, Jan. 25 (PIA) -- Schools in Panabo City and a municipality in nearby Compostela Valley were recipients of this city government's “Care for School Chairs Program.”

City Councilor De Carlo “Oyo” L. Uy has intensified efforts to distribute brand new school chairs to schools in Tagum City, particularly in the different day care centers in the barangays.

Tagum City Mayor Rey T. Uy was also busy doing the same efforts last week in nearby towns, reaching schools in Panabo City, province of Davao del Norte and even in the municipality of Compostela, Compostela Valley province.

Manay National High School, a remote school in Panabo received 259 pieces of armchairs last January 19, while 656 pieces were also distributed to three different schools in Compostela National High School last January 20.

Teacher Hilda Gales of Compostela National High School can’t believe her classroom was among the beneficiaries, saying that she only wished Mayor Uy’s team will go to their school each time she heard news about this program on the television.

“Salamat sa dakong tabang ninyo, sa inyong pakigtambayayong sa DepEd para sa kalambuan sa atong mga estudyante (Thank you for your big help, for partnering with DepEd for the improvement of the students),” Gales expressed her gratitude to Tagum City officials.

She said that receiving the new chairs was a “dream come true” for the school and the students.

During the distribution of chairs, Mayor Uy was with Compostela Mayor Jesse Bolo, Board Members Neri Barte and Roel Gonzaga of Comval’s Sangguniang Panlalawigan and Barangay Poblacion Captain Wilfredo Ang.

As to date, more than 18,346 pieces of school furniture such as armchairs, desk, kiddie chairs and kiddie tables have already been distributed by the local government of Tagum to the different schools in the region.

The sets of school furniture were made out of the confiscated logs given by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).

Mayor Uy said that the fabrication and distribution of school chairs will keep on until December this year, with the large bulk of logs given by DENR which are currently placed at the city’s motor pool.

With this, he called on the public to volunteer in painting of the chairs.

Heads of the city hall’s different departments, divisions and sections took time to participate in the Bayanihan on January 23, though it was declared a special non-working holiday on that day because of the Chinese New Year celebration.

The provincial government of Compostela Valley had provided five carpenters to augment the workforce in fabricating the school chairs.

Mayor Uy said that about 1,200 pieces of chairs can be made in a week. (CIO-Tagum City)
