    DAVAO CITY, January 28 (PIA) -- Thirty-year old Nina Gloria once stopped schooling at the age of 15 when she got pregnant. Her classmates graduated and proceeded college while Nina opted to take care of her child at home.
    However, there was something in her that pushed her back to school. At first, she was hesitant to attend classes with classmates way younger than her. Then she learned about the Alternative Learning System (ALS) offered by the Department of Education in Tagum City. (+)

Technopreneur introduces a mobile application for OFWs

    DAVAO CITY, Jan. 27 (PIA) -- A mobile Internet-based application designed to watch over Overseas Filipino Workers has been developed by a former OFW turned technopreneur.
    Myrna Padilla, a former domestic helper in Hongkong who is now a successful owner of an information technology (IT) outsourcing company in Davao City, has developed the OFW Watch which is primarily catered to identify OFW at risks and deliver help when necessary. (+)

DA plans to use Mindanao program in Luzon

    DAVAO CITY, Jan 31. PIA –- The Department of Agriculture (DA) is now planning to replicate the certain components of the Mindanao Rural Development Program (MRDP) in Central Luzon after receiving favorable feedback from the local government units covered in the program as well as a favorable assessment from the World Bank.
    Agriculture Secretary Proceso Alcala, during his visit in the city Monday, bared that the agency is now working together with the World Bank team in preparing for a feasibility study on how to replicate certain features of the MRDP which could be of use in other programs of the department. (+)

Licensed massage therapists urged to take care of profession and industry

    DAVAO CITY, Davao del Sur, Jan. 31 (PIA) -- An official of the Department of Health has called on the Licensed Massage Therapists (LMTs) in the region to practice their profession within the scope of the law to ensure public safety.
    Dr. Josephine Hipolito of DOH-Manila told the newly-sworn in LMTs to take care of their profession and the industry, following a strengthened advocacy in professionalizing the massage therapy as a career and as an industry. (+)

Health programs under PNoy, more felt by LGUs- DavNor Gov del Rosario

    DAVAO CITY Jan 30 (PIA)-- Health development programs is now more felt by local government units under the administration of President Benigno Aquino, this according to Davao del Norte Governor Rodolfo del Rosario.
    The Governor said presently the budget for health programs particularly in the rehabilitation and development of provincial and district hospitals now passes through the local government. (+)

Arts festival to tender music therapy for Sendong victims

    DAVAO CITY, Jan. 27 (PIA) -– Instead of bringing gongs and bamboo music fete in typhoon Sendong-stricken Cagayan de Oro City, the Philippine Arts Festival 2012 will be held in said city to provide music and dance therapy to the disaster survivors.
    The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) will be staging the PAF this year in CDO as well as in Iligan City to tender the arts therapy in lieu of the First Asian Festival of Gongs and Bamboo Music activity which was earlier programmed. (+)
