6 N. Cotabato towns among candidate partners of CPC7-UNICEF

KORONADAL CITY, Jan 12 (PIA) -- At least six municipalities in North Cotabato have been identified among candidate partners for the implementation of the Seventh Country Programme for Children (CPC7) of the United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef).

After a series of thorough situation analyses and workshops conducted by Unicef to 1,500 municipalities in the country, the towns of Aleosan, Arakan, Banisilan, Midsayap, Pikit and Pres. Roxas are now being considered as beneficiaries of the program due to their inclusion in several national government priority lists.

Recently, OIC-Deputy Representative of Unicef Abdul Alim, advised these local government units to place considerable emphasis on the role of the municipality in the delivery of social services critical to the protection and promotion of children’s rights during the implementation of the CPC7 which will officially start this month.

The CPC7 has been specifically designed to assist municipalities that have identified their gaps in social development and have initiated work to address those gaps through Sanggunian-approved development program budgets.

“This possible assistance of Unicef to six municipalities in the province will more likely go a long way of changing and touching children’s lives just like what CPC6 has done to our province,” said Gov. Emmylou “Lala” Taliño-Mendoza.

According to the announcement of assistance provided by Unicef, CPC7 will provide modest technical assistance, materials and training to qualifying local governments interested in improving their ability to address locally identified gaps in services and initiatives aimed at improving the lives of children and adolescents.

“I know that these identified municipalities are facing great pressures to provide better services and soon better living condition for its constituents. After vulnerability analysis and passing the qualifications set by the programme, I assure them of my full support,” said Taliño-Mendoza. (DEDoguiles/PIA/EDVargas/PGO-NCotabato)
