PNP-12 intelligence operatives enhance knowledge on human rights

GENERAL SANTOS CITY, Jan 25 (PIA)-- Police intelligence operatives here have undergone a seminar on human rights to improve professionalism in the workplace and “in promoting and protecting the rights of every citizen” in its area of responsibility.

CSupt. Lester Camba, deputy regional director for administration said the seminar aimed at developing the police force “to become morally upright, highly motivated and respectable law enforcers by doing their jobs with vitality, integrity and professionalism.”

The seminar held Wednesday (January 18) at the Police Regional Office (PRO) 12 Headquarters here was also expected to raise the level of knowledge of police personnel on the “Code of Conduct for Law Enforcement Officials and PNP Organizational Structure Ethical and Legal Conducts; Policing in Democracies; Non- Discrimination in Law Enforcement; Police Investigations and even arrest executions.”

According to Supt. Resty Damaso, police public information officer, the activity has provided additional knowledge to all the members of the police regional office 12 toward improved performance and productivity.

The seminar enable the police to have a clear view on the principles of human rights equipping them with the tool to enhance their skills in handling human rights-related activities and issues, he said.

The police officer cited the universality of human rights saying the Philippine National Police (PNP) as prime protector of the people must “know how to apply international standards for human rights” at the local level.

Aside from emphasizing the importance of observing the tenets of human rights while in the line of duty, the seminar also tackled on gender equality “because women play a very significant role in some aspects of police operation.”

Camba expressed the hope that police participants, after the seminar, may be inspired to work more with much enthusiasm for a better, improved and effective delivery of public service…” (CTA/PIA General Santos City/With reports from PNP-12)
