Regional Development Council discusses activities for this year’s Women’s Month celeb

BUTUAN CITY, Jan. 21 (PIA) –- The Technical Working Group of the Regional Development Council – Gender and Development Coordinating Committee (RDC-GADCC) Caraga with chairperson Atty. Marylin M. Pintor, Commission on Human Rights (CHR) Caraga Regional Director discussed activities for this year’s Women’s Month celebration.

During its recently held meeting, members of the TWG have initially planned lined up activities, which are still open for further suggestion from all its member-agencies during its full committee meeting set January 30.

As planned, the RDC-GADCC will be holding a press conference on February 17, 2012 to update the local tri-media here on the year-round activities of the committee.

According to Atty. Pintor, the activities for this year’s Women’s Month celebration will be far different from last year.

For this year, the opening program of said celebration on March 1 will kick off through a mini concert featuring bands composed of women while part of it will highlight the releasing of the sky lanterns by the participating agencies as sign of unity and support to gender equality.

Also, to further strengthen camaraderie of all participants, the institutionalized ‘Kalandrakas sa Kababaihan’ will be also feature more activities, entertainment that will surely make the celebration memorable.

The ‘Kalandrakas sa Kababaihan’ serves as a venue for technology transfer for livelihood opportunities and skills development; trade fair; ukay-ukay; GAD film showing; beauty and massage parlors, parlor games; and creates a venue for information dissemination on GAD issues and concerns.

Meanwhile, during the culmination activity, best practices of the barangays supporting anti-human trafficking and VAWC will be presented. (JPG/PIA-Caraga)
